The term "diaper," first used to describe a pattern of repetitive, rhombic forms, subsequently evolved to refer to white cotton or linen fabric having this pattern. The Middle English word Baby Diapers originally referred to a type of cloth rather than the usage thereof. It is a piece of soft cloth or other thick material placed around a baby's bottom and between its legs to absorb and hold the baby's bodily waste. The original cloth diapers were made from a particular kind of soft tissue sheet that had been cut into geometric forms. Diaper was the name given to the design that could be seen in woven fabrics like linen.

Infants, toddlers who have not yet learned to use the bathroom, and kids who have bedwetting issues are the main groups of people who wear diapers. Adults can also use them for a variety of illnesses, such as incontinence, or in specific situations. Adult users can include people who are elderly, bedridden hospital patients, people with specific kinds of physical or mental disabilities, and people who work in difficult conditions, like astronauts. Wearing jewellery is prevalent among people.

In terms of revenue, the Global Baby Diapers Market was estimated to be worth US$ 60.97 billion in 2021, exhibiting a CAGR of 4.5% over the forecast period.

To stop leaks, cloth diapers were occasionally worn over rubber trousers or, when they were available, wool pants. Because the rubber acts as a poultice and harms newborns' skin, doctors feared rubber pants were dangerous. The infection of diaper rash was a persistent issue that needed to be solved.

It was feared that the problem would get worse if there was insufficient airflow. While a deficiency in airflow is a contributing factor, it was later discovered that poor hygiene, including inefficient Baby Diapers washing and infrequent diaper changes, as well as letting the infant lie for extended periods of time with faeces in contact with the skin, were the two main causes of these issues.
