A Cholangiocarcinoma Forms In The Ducts That Carry The Digestive Fluid Bile


Cholangiocarcinoma is a cancer that starts in the bile ducts. The liver and gallbladder are connected to the small intestine via bile ducts, which are branched tubes. They transport bile, a fluid that aids the body's digestion of fats found in food. After eating, bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder before being released in the small intestine.

Cholangiocarcinoma is classified based on where it is located in relation to the liver. Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma develops in the liver's small bile ducts. This is the disease's least common form, accounting for less than 10% of all cases. The hilum, where the right and left major bile ducts join and leave the liver, is where perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (also known as a Klatskin tumor) begins.

Symptoms frequently occur when the tumour blocks the bile ducts. Jaundice, in which the skin and whites of the eyes turn yellow, is the most common symptom.

Excessive tiredness (fatigue), itching, dark-colored urine, loss of appetite, unintentional weight loss, abdominal pain, and light-colored and greasy stools are some of the other symptoms. These symptoms are referred to as "nonspecific" because they can be symptoms of a variety of diseases.
