Artificial Turf is a synthetic fibre surface that mimics natural grass. It's most commonly used in arenas for sports that were or are still played on grass. It is now also being utilised on home lawns and in commercial settings. The primary argument is that artificial grass can withstand intensive use, such as in sports, and does not require irrigation or trimming. Due to the difficulty of getting grass enough sunlight to keep healthy in domed, covered, and partially covered stadiums, artificial turf may be required. Artificial grass, on the other hand, has some drawbacks, including a short lifespan, the need for regular cleaning, the usage of petroleum, hazardous chemicals in the infill, and increased health and safety risks.

Artificial Turf Market initially attracted widespread attention in 1966, when it was erected in the Astrodome, which was just a year old at the time. The exact product used was "ChemGrass," which was created by Monsanto and renamed as AstroTurf in the late twentieth century; the term has subsequently become a generic trademark for any artificial turf. Monsanto no longer owns the AstroTurf trademark, which is still registered. The first generation turf systems of the 1960s (short-pile fibres without infill) have mostly been superseded by the second and third generation turf systems. Longer fibres and sand infills are found in second-generation synthetic turf systems, while infills made of sand and recycled rubber granules, or "rubber crumb," are found in third-generation synthetic turf systems.

The major difference in Artificial Turf play was that the ball bounced higher and went faster than on actual grass, forcing infielders to play farther back than they typically would to give themselves enough time to respond. The ball also bounced truer than grass, allowing fielders to intentionally bounce the ball in front of the person they were throwing to, knowing it would go in a straight line and not be diverted to the right or left. However, the players' bodies had the most impact on the game of "grass," as it became known.
