Acrylonitrile, also known as CH2CHCN, is a colourless volatile liquid with the chemical formula CH2CHCN. It is an organic compound that can turn yellow due to the presence of impurities. It is made through an ammoxidation process in which propylene, ammonia, and air are reacted at high temperatures in the presence of a catalyst. 

Propenonitrile is a highly reactive and toxic monomer that is used in the manufacture of plastics such as ABS, SAN, ASA, and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber. The propenonitrile market is expanding primarily due to the high demand for mentioned plastics in the automotive and construction industries due to properties such as durability, thermal stability, chemical resistance, and high strength.
