Specialty Silica; Used As an Additive in the Formulation Process of Various Products
Specialty Silica is widely used to manufacture tires in the automotive industry as it helps reduce carbon emissions. It can be classified into colloidal silica, fused silica, fumed silica, precipitated silica, and silica gel, and all of them find application across various end-use industries, such as electronics, automotive, paints & coatings, personal care, and cosmetic products, among others. Specialty silica is produced in the form of round pebbles and sawed or trimmed blocks or fine powder which is further used as a key additive in the formulation of several products.
Specialty Silica is used to improve the processing, rheology, and overall performance of various plastics, polymer compounds, and composites. Moreover, it can be also used in the construction industry due to their high tensile strength and resistance to abrasion. Thus, with the increasing use of specialty silica in various end-use industries, such as electronics, automotive, paints & coatings, personal care and cosmetics, and construction, the demand for specialty silica is also increasing with a rapid pace across the globe.
According to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the U.S., India, and China are expected to account for almost 60 per cent of all global growth in the construction sector by 2025. This in turn is expected to increase Demand for Specialty Silica Market in these regions. Flooring, mortars, cement, roofing shingles, asphalt, and other industrial/construction materials all use specialty silica to improve durability and structural integrity. As specialty silica is resistant to weather, wear, and corrosion, it is often used as a caulk or sealant.
Specialty Silica also is used as gemstones, as a refractory material, in foundry molds, in grinding and polishing glass and stone, and to manufacture ceramics, glass, ferrosilicon, silicon carbide, and silicones. Silica gel is often used as a desiccant to remove moisture. Specialty silica is also used to manufacture transport just as transmission belts, wherein it gives abrasion resistance, high elasticity, and improves tear resistance.
