Chromatography is the separation of different components of a mixture by means of different chromatographic methods. Different kinds of chromatography methods can be divided into two main categories: preparative chromatography and semi-preparative chromatography. These methods are used to separate larger volumes of mixtures. The purpose of these methods is to generate enough material for various applications.

A Chromatography Data System (CDS) system allows users to access a plethora of information from various sources. It can be used to analyze the impact of different technologies on the market. It can also be used to determine the performance of a CDS. CDS solutions provide the backbone of data management in most chromatography workflows. These systems automate instrument control, data acquisition, result processing, and reporting.

However, many laboratories fail to fully integrate Chromatography Data System solutions. Instead, separate teams use separate CDS solutions along with partially paper-based data storage systems and spreadsheets. Moreover, many of these solutions were developed for research laboratories and were introduced before the recent focus on data integrity. Furthermore, they often lack the functionality necessary to support regulatory compliance.

Modern regulatory requirements require manufacturers to ensure the accuracy of their data. Therefore, the use of the Chromatography Data System has increased significantly. In September 2021, for instance, a research team at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, published the results of a clinical trial that concluded that CyPPA (cyclohexyl-[2-(3, 5-dimethyl-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methyl-pyrimidin-4-yl)-amine) treatment can raise core body temperature via various metabolic pathways.

In addition to ensuring data integrity, these systems facilitate paperless analysis. This is particularly important in diagnostic and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. In addition, the increasing need for accurate measurement of results and the increased need for smooth information transfer are augmenting the demand for CDS. Today, there are many new CDS for chromatography.
