What is a Stop-start Battery?

Technology that starts and stops Automobiles start and stops a lot more than ordinary cars, which puts a lot of strain on the Stop-start Battery. A typical automobile battery, also known as an LSI (lighting, starting, ignition) battery, was designed to provide a car a jolt to start it a few times a day in the past. However, because of the new start-stop technology, cars are stopping and resuming significantly more frequently, putting additional strain on the battery system.

Not only does the car battery have to spend more energy to stop and start more frequently, but it also has to feed all of the other components of the automobile, such as the air conditioning, lighting, and radio.

What are the many types of Start-stop Batteries Available?

The first introductory battery to match the new Stop-start Battery technology standards was the ECM (Enhanced Cyclic Mat) battery, also known as AFB (Advanced Flooded Batteries) or EFB (Enhanced Flooded Batteries). Essentially, these batteries are an evolution of the traditional lead-acid battery, with additional features such as:
  • Even while the car is idle, it provides consistent power to all electrical loads.
  • Deep cycle capabilities are improved by increased durability.
  • Longer cycle life.
  • Quicker recharging
AGM batteries are likewise lead-acid batteries, however, they are far more advanced than their ECM counterparts. Instead of flowing freely as a liquid, their method allows the acid to be absorbed into a fibreglass material. The following are the key advantages of an AGM start-stop battery:
  • Maintenance-free
  • Rapid recharging
  • High-capacity output
  • Capabilities for advanced deep cycles

What is the Life Expectancy of Start-Stop Batteries?

While the majority of ordinary LSI batteries are guaranteed to last four years, they can survive up to six or seven years in some cases. Because cars with start-stop technology demand a substantially higher output from their Stop-start Battery, they may not survive as long as their standard counterparts.
